You simply can’t push the panic button after 1 game.  That was what I walked away from the Basehor-Linwood vs Bonner Springs game saying to myself.  I could have declared Basehor the best team in the state and Bonner Springs a complete bust.  Those nights happen all the time and I could not be more impressed with the way the Braves responded this week.  They travel to the Eudora tournament and claim 3 wins and a title.

I got to watch the first half of the championship game against Truman and walked away very impressed.  Devante McGee is shooting the ball very well as he rained in 3’s.  Jamison Jackson established that he is going to be one of the more explosive players this season.  Kids at this level don’t just casually drive the lane and dunk off one foot so effortlessly, especially not sophomores.  Not many surprise me enough to get me out of my seat as well.  Its one dunk so I will stick to my rule from before not to get too excited but the tools are there for Jackson.

Bonner Springs wins 78-56 over Truman

Sumner Academy struggles against Grandview 61-36.  This was my second live look at Saadique Perkins and I again walked away impressed with his potential.  For a second game now he freely got to the rim and got fouled or finished.  He is explosive as well as he got a nice dunk in transition.  The Sabres scored 12 points in the first quarter and he scored 10 and assisted on the other basket.  He took a tough fall which shook him up for the rest of the game but he could easily be the most valuable player to his team.

Wyandotte falls to KC East 57-44.  I only got to stay and watch the first few minutes of Wyandotte who is very small right now.  I got to chat with Coach Kreiling a bit before the game and they have a couple of more pieces that will be added soon but right now are playing very small.  It is not an ideal situation but Sumner and Wyandotte will play today in the bottom of the bracket.

Washington took their first loss of the year against Hogan Prep 64-55.  JaMarkus Dawn led the way with 15 for the Wildcats.

Harmon blew up with a 88-64 win over Wellsville.  88 points and Coach Gonzo spotlights 4 charges??  I get it of course and nice work by Drevontae Tiller taking 4 for the team.

Girls:

Schlagle defeats Turner 63-32.  Riana Lawson led the way with 27.  Kiara Brown posted a double double with 12 points and over 10 rebounds.  Brown has been a handful for opponents defensively as she collected a high number of steals.
